It’s Day 1 and I can’t help it, I’m excited! A very different feeling from last year. But I’m getting ahead of myself…
As I’ve been reading through the Two Writing Teachers posts on ways to get ready for the March Challenge, I read a tip to help writers get started on Day 1: Introduce yourself. So I figured I would do just that.
Aloha! My name is Lehua and yes, I was born and raised here in Hawaii. I’d like to say sunny Hawaii, but we have not had sunny weather in awhile, which is pretty unusual. I am a wife, a mom and a teacher. Most times not in that order. Of these three roles I play, I have been a teacher the longest – and yet I am not close to being a “master” in any of these roles. I’m pretty sure I never will and that’s okay with me.
I was a Special Education teacher for 7 years until I entered into my current role: a Literacy Teacher/Coach. I’ve been working at this role for the last 10 years. I love my job. I always have. But I do miss having my own classroom. Though I love working with teachers, my heart will always be with the kiddos.
I love to read and I LOVE to write. When I happened upon the Two Writing Teachers last year, I hemmed and hawed about joining for a good two weeks. It took me almost 3 days to submit the form and actually commit. This year was different. After being here for the last year, this time around, I was excited! I’m excited to be a part of a community of people who choose to be here, who are dedicated to this craft, are passionate about teaching, but most of all, who have been so very welcoming and encouraging. Whether near or far, everyone has been wonderful.
I am thankful. I am blessed. And I am excited to be back!
Anyone else ready and excited?
Good luck for year two! You’ve already got the right attitude 🙂

I feel less ready this year, but super excited. I listen to Kristi Mraz’ podcast yesterday on Heinemann. One of the things that stuck with me is aim for growth, not perfection. Here we go!

I love that! A growth mindset indeed! I enjoy the writing…my aim for growth this year is to be a better “commenter” on others’ slices. 🙂 Good luck to you this month! I’m looking forward to reading more of your writing!

I love your enthusiasm, and you’re right, this is a GREAT community of folks to share our writing–and our lives. I’m glad you’re joining us! Year six for me, and I got to talk to classes about it for the first time as one of my teachers is doing the challenge with her students. Whoohoo!

Thank you for coming back. I’ve lost track of how many years I’ve participated, but each year it’s great to reconnect with friends. I hope you will be inspired by everyone so that you will be back again next year.

I really do get inspired by everyone! I truly understand how people keep coming back. And I think it’s amazing how these same people, who are so far away in proximity, I would call my friends. 🙂 Thank you!

Welcome back for year 2! You are right about this being a great supportive community. BTW, I lived in Hawaii for a couple years in Pearl City (military wife back then). I have wonderful memories.

Thank you! I love being a part of this community! I also love Pearl City! I grew up one city over, in Aiea! I miss it, though I don’t miss the traffic! 🙂

Nice to meet you! I haven’t thought about the different roles I have in life and how long I’ve been in those roles but, like you, I don’t consider myself a master of any of them. And, like you, I am a Coach whose heart lives in the classroom. Looking forward to slicing along with you this month!

This has to be my favorite part about slicing: meeting others! It’s great to meet you too! Thank you for stopping by!
